A post by CCCU member and UND student Drew Thompson

As a young adult attending the University of North Dakota, I find myself in a very common position. There are thousands of students like me in this city alone. And, what do most of us have in common? We're independent! Every day, I have the freedom to choose my own activities. I have the choice to spend or save money, and I have decisions to make. Often times, these decisions are made based on one key factor, "Can I afford it?"

Cliches about money can be incredibly redundant. However, they do have some truth to them! The bottom line is that you need to have a plan with your money. Whether saving money is a priority or not, you should be thinking about the financial decisions you make. For example, as a student studying away from my hometown, I'm on my own for the first time ever. Mom's not there to make dinner, Dad isn't there to help with homework, and it's my responsibility to care for myself and cover necessary expenses. Although this may seem overwhelming, I have all the tools I need to succeed academically, physically and financially. Just as UND provides services for me, I've found that Citizens Community Credit Union is there for me too.

I'm relatively new to handling my own finances, so having CCCU as a resource I can trust is a huge relief. Paying for school, saving for the future and ensuring you have money in emergency situations requires significant financial awareness. Students have enough stress to deal with -- make your life a little easier and keep your money safe at CCCU. It's a great feeling to have a place that makes me feel comfortable and confident with my money!
